Build and operate backend-leaning full-stack capabilities for a self-service Developer Portal, owning APIs, data models, identity and authorization features, and customer-facing interfaces. The role requires 4+ years of backend software development experience, strong Java or comparable framework skills, relational database expertise, and React/TypeScript proficiency.

Responsibilities
- Design and implement Developer Portal capabilities end-to-end, from API contracts and database schemas through frontend integration, deployment, and production operation.
- Build backend services, REST APIs, data models, and customer-facing portal features for application registration, authorization, identity-aware provisioning, sandbox testing, and self-service onboarding.
- Own API versioning, backwards compatibility, OpenAPI documentation, and safe production schema migrations.
- Develop secure capabilities involving OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, enterprise SSO, multi-tenant authorization, relationship-based access control, session management, and credential management.
- Ship user-facing features with Next.js, React, and TypeScript.
- Coordinate with Product, Design, Architecture, Identity, Organizations, Authorization, and Platform Engineering teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- 4+ years of professional software development experience building and operating production backend services; less experience may be considered for PhD or master's holders.
- Experience building backend services and REST APIs with Java/Spring Boot, Ruby on Rails, Node.js, or a similar modern web framework.
- Strong relational database experience, including complex SQL and safe production schema migrations.
- Experience designing versioned, backwards-compatible REST API contracts and documenting them with OpenAPI or a similar specification.
- Working proficiency with TypeScript and React.
- Familiarity with OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, or related identity standards.
- Experience independently driving technical initiatives through production and coordinating across teams.
- Proficiency with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code or Cursor.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Nice-to-haves
- Developer-experience work involving SDKs, API reference documentation, quickstarts, sandboxes, debugging surfaces, or self-service onboarding.
- Experience with developer portals, API platforms, authentication platforms, cloud platforms, payments platforms, or similar self-service developer experiences.
- Java 21+ and Spring Boot production experience.
- Ruby on Rails.
- PostgreSQL, including graph-like or highly relational data models.
- Next.js and micro-frontend architectures such as Webpack Module Federation.
- OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SAML 2.0, and SCIM.
- Relationship-based authorization systems such as SpiceDB, OpenFGA, or Zanzibar-inspired architectures.
- Policy engines such as OPA or Cedar.
- Feature-flag-driven migrations in customer-facing production systems.
- OpenAPI tooling, docs-as-code, or SDK generation.
- Identity verification, fraud prevention, KYC/AML, regulated identity systems, or NIST 800-63 IAL/AAL guidelines.
- Google Cloud Platform and cloud-native application development.
