Engineering Manager
Leads a founding engineering team building and operating MongoDB integrations across rapidly evolving AI frameworks. The role combines people leadership, technical direction, hiring, production ownership, and cross-functional collaboration across developer tooling and open-source ecosystems.

Responsibilities
- Hire and lead a team of Python and TypeScript engineers building and owning MongoDB integrations across AI frameworks including LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex, n8n, and Mastra.
- Set technical direction and deliver integrations in a fast-moving environment with changing framework requirements, customer demand, partner needs, and strategic opportunities.
- Partner with product, program management, sales, GTM, recruiting, field teams, developer communities, open-source maintainers, and peer engineering teams to prioritize and deliver capabilities.
- Manage dependencies on drivers, platform capabilities, and other MongoDB product surfaces.
- Contribute to exploratory technical work, guide key decisions, unblock the team, and make architectural trade-offs.
- Own monitoring, operations, maintenance, testing strategy, release readiness, and long-term quality for the integration portfolio.
- Establish sustainable engineering practices, including CI/CD, automated testing, version compatibility, and integration health monitoring.
- Keep the team current with Python, TypeScript, AI builder ecosystems, frameworks, community discussions, and emerging patterns.
- Use customer, community, partner, and field signals to guide roadmap and investment decisions.
- Escalate issues and resource needs early, and support effective prioritization and cross-functional handoffs.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience building developer platforms, libraries, or other high-scale technical systems.
- Strong proficiency in Python or TypeScript, with the ability to lead teams working across both ecosystems.
- 3+ years of experience managing software engineers and providing technical leadership for complex projects or products.
- Experience with query optimization, especially MongoDB; distributed systems experience is an asset.
- Experience with AI coding tools and modern AI builder workflows.
- Demonstrated success hiring, mentoring, and developing high-performing engineering teams, including career development, feedback, and performance management.
- Strong technical depth in developer-facing software and sound architectural judgment.
- Experience launching features or systems and operating them successfully in production.
- Excellent written and verbal technical communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Ability to work effectively amid ambiguity, frequent context switching, incomplete information, and competing priorities.
- Demonstrated interest in developer tooling and AI concepts such as retrieval patterns, agent workflows, embeddings, and vector search.
- Experience with open-source software, external ecosystems, third-party framework integrations, and external maintainer collaboration.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience working with polyglot programming-language teams.
- Familiarity with open-source contribution models and work spanning company-owned and upstream repositories.
- Distributed systems experience.
- Experience with AI builder frameworks and communities, particularly in the Python ecosystem.
