Science Lead, Intercept

Responsibilities

  • Expand the pipeline of broad-spectrum preventative (BSP) candidates by engaging networks (researchers, investors, founders, funders) to source new ideas and technologies.
  • Diligence pipeline opportunities: evaluate science quality, development plans, team, and fit against target product profile (TPP).
  • Develop points of view on technologies; contribute to publishing POVs for the 5-10 most promising approaches (e.g., siRNA, T-cell vaccines, innate immune stimulators), identifying key gating datapoints.
  • Build and maintain the CRM to capture all known projects and systematically learn about new ones early.
  • Support RFP and investment process: publish RFPs highlighting promising areas, drive projects from intake through execution.
  • Portfolio management: monitor investments, determine ways to accelerate top projects 2x faster.
  • Map demand-side bottlenecks across regulatory, clinical, recommendations, reimbursement, and adoption.

Requirements

  • PhD or MD in immunology and/or infectious disease.
  • 5+ years of post-grad research experience in biotech, pharma, VC, or consulting.
  • Demonstrated capacity to explore and evaluate a broad range of scientific topics; experience with scientific curation (e.g., research portfolio oversight, grant making, investment experience).
  • Experience with portfolio management, including construction and post-award management.
  • Ability to translate scientific diligence into strategic investment recommendations and coherent capital deployment views.
  • Product development experience (and/or broad exposure via investing or supporting companies).
  • Experience with project management from launch to completion; high openness to getting hands dirty.
  • Extremely self-directed, diligent, fast learner, excellent communicator, action-oriented.
  • Compelled by mission to reduce burden and risks from respiratory viruses.
  • Public health / global health / biosecurity experience.
