Data Acquisition Lead, Frontier Environments

Leads Scale’s zero-to-one commercial motion for acquiring proprietary data used to build AI reinforcement-learning environments. The role maps data holders, structures and closes deals, evaluates dataset value, and builds a repeatable acquisition pipeline while partnering with Research, Legal, and Finance.

Responsibilities

  • Map the data supply side by identifying organizations that hold valuable underlying data for emerging AI domains.
  • Develop a thesis on which domains to pursue and in what order.
  • Create transaction and pricing structures with the Legal team.
  • Own the acquisition process from cold outreach through signature.
  • Evaluate what makes datasets trainable and translate between commercial and Research teams.
  • Build a repeatable data-acquisition pipeline from initial hands-on processes.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience across business development, corporate development, commercial strategy, or early-stage go-to-market.
  • Track record of creating new commercial motions.
  • Strong external relationship management and business judgment.
  • Clear communication skills and comfort with senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and cross-functionally.
  • Practical approach to building new functions in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.
  • Experience in AI, data infrastructure, marketplaces, platforms, or high-growth technology companies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with post-training, reinforcement learning, evaluations, or synthetic data.
  • Experience with data licensing, intellectual property, or regulated data.
  • Experience partnering with Legal and Finance on complex agreements.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary range of $182,400–$228,000 USD.
  • Eligible roles may include equity compensation.
  • Benefits include health, dental and vision coverage, retirement benefits, a learning and development stipend, generous paid time off, and potentially a commuter stipend.
