Senior Professional Services Engineer - PubSec

Delivers secure GitLab implementations, migrations, and enablement for federal customers in FedRAMP, DoD, and air-gapped environments. Requires an active TS/SCI clearance, DC Metro eligibility, infrastructure-as-code and cloud experience, and familiarity with regulated compliance frameworks.

About the job

Responsibilities

  • Independently deliver assigned Statement of Work scope and escalate architecture decisions to technical architects and senior engineers.
  • Install, configure, upgrade, troubleshoot, and tune GitLab reference architectures in cloud, on-premises, and air-gapped environments, including Geo, high availability, and Kubernetes deployments.
  • Perform installations and upgrades in disconnected networks using offline package management, container registry mirroring, and dependency staging.
  • Configure GitLab to agency security baselines, including DISA STIG hardening, FIPS-compliant deployments, and SAML or PIV/CAC-backed authentication.
  • Develop and execute migrations from Bitbucket, GitHub Enterprise, Jenkins, and legacy version-control systems to GitLab Self-Managed or GitLab Dedicated for Government.
  • Serve as the primary technical contact for agency engineering and security teams; lead workshops and enablement sessions for developers, platform teams, and information system security officers.
  • Translate compliance requirements into GitLab configurations, identify control gaps, and support authorization work with technical artifacts and assessor evidence.
  • Document implementations, create reusable runbooks and automation, identify scope changes and risks, support Associate engineers, improve delivery practices, and communicate compliance gaps to Product and Engineering.

Requirements

  • Experience delivering infrastructure or platform work in a customer-facing or consulting role, working independently across concurrent engagements.
  • Active Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance and ability to work in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
  • Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Packer, Puppet, or Chef.
  • Experience with major cloud providers, including government regions such as AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, or Google Assured Workloads.
  • Experience deploying and administering GitLab, including CI/CD, the container registry, and Premium or Ultimate features.
  • Production experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Delivery experience in regulated or accredited environments, such as federal, DoD, state, defense industrial base, financial services, or healthcare.
  • Familiarity with FedRAMP, NIST 800-53 or 800-171, CMMC, or DISA STIGs, and understanding of how Authority to Operate timelines and change control affect delivery.
  • Clear written and verbal communication with mixed technical audiences.
  • Scripting experience in Python, Ruby, or Go.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior GitLab Professional Services, federal systems integrator, or agency delivery experience.
  • Experience with GitLab Dedicated for Government or another FedRAMP-authorized SaaS environment.
  • Contributions to GitLab or other open-source projects.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base salary: $164,880–$277,560 USD.
  • Flexible paid time off.
