Responsibilities
- Own the architecture for the Finance Technology platform, including pay-ins, payouts, invoicing, and tax calculation.
- Define versioned APIs and service contracts consumed across channels.
- Lead multi-quarter, multi-team initiatives from problem definition and system design through delivery while remaining hands-on in code.
- Own technical health by defining engineering quality standards and tracking operational metrics.
- Evaluate finance technology providers, including payment service providers, through technical spikes and prototypes.
- Drive innovation and experimentation in an AI-native software development lifecycle.
- Align engineering, product, and other senior leaders on shared patterns and standards.
- Lead collaborative design sessions and architectural decision-making.
- Partner with Platform Engineering on shared services, Temporal, observability, secrets, and CI/CD.
- Provide design reviews, code reviews, architectural guidance, and mentorship.
- Participate in on-call rotation and lead investigation of customer-impacting production issues.
Requirements
- 8+ years building backend services.
- 4+ years of experience with Go.
- Experience leading multi-quarter, multi-team initiatives as a technical lead, including architecture, sequencing, and delivery.
- Deep experience with payment processing and payout systems, including card processing, invoicing, refunds, disbursements, and tax.
- Hands-on integration with payment service providers and gateways such as Stripe, Adyen, Braintree, and card networks.
- Understanding of settlement, chargebacks, PCI, and SCA.
- Experience building and scaling high-integrity systems such as payments, ledgers, billing, or other critical distributed systems.
- Strong API and service-boundary design skills.
- Commitment to security, automated testing, clean code, CI/CD, feature flags, telemetry, and safe incremental rollouts.
- Clear written and verbal communication of system designs and technical tradeoffs.
- Demonstrated use of AI tools to improve the software development lifecycle without sacrificing rigor.
Nice-to-haves
- Workflow orchestration experience, such as Temporal.
- Experience with card issuance or ledgering.
Compensation
- National total target cash compensation, including base salary and bonus target: $184,000–$232,000 annually.
- Additional compensation and benefits may include equity, 401(k) match, health, dental, vision, flexible PTO, paid holidays, and family planning and mental health resources.
