Senior Software Engineer, Query Execution
Develop and improve MongoDB’s distributed query execution system, including execution algorithms, query language features, diagnostics, and performance. The role requires 5+ years of systems programming experience, strong computer science fundamentals, and expertise in a compiled language such as C++.

Responsibilities
- Understand and improve current functionality of the MongoDB query engine.
- Contribute high-quality C++ code and participate in code reviews.
- Identify, design, implement, test, and support new features related to query performance and robustness, query language enhancements, diagnostics for query performance problems, and integration with other products and tools.
- Work constructively with peers to deliver excellent technical solutions.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in systems programming.
- Hands-on experience building industrial-strength software.
- Solid computer science fundamentals, including strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software design and architecture.
- Experience with large code bases, preferably in C++, C, Rust, or a similar compiled language.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a similar field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Interest in the theory and practice of database query engines.
Nice to Have
- Experience with databases and/or data management systems.
- Hands-on experience with database query engines.
- Master's or PhD in a relevant domain.
Success Measures
- Within three months, contribute to a project slated for the next major version and fix bugs in a minor version of the latest stable release series.
- Within six months, take on code review responsibilities and independently deliver complex functionality and fix bugs.
- Within twelve months, lead development of a new major feature and help mentor new engineers.
