Manager I, Engineering - Cloud FinOps

Engineering manager leading a data platform team that allocates cloud costs to products and customers. The role requires experience with reproducible batch pipelines, versioned financial metrics, cross-functional delivery, and cloud cost, billing, revenue, or financial data systems.

About the job

Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow a team building Datadog’s cloud cost allocation platform for products and customers.
  • Set operating rhythms across runtime and release, coverage onboarding, identity, and cost mapping.
  • Own Finance’s publication contract, including versioned metrics, effective dates, backfills, and reproducible history for replayable closed periods.
  • Define metric contracts with platform teams so cost facts are produced by the teams generating the cost.
  • Partner with Revenue Engineering on cost-to-revenue identity joins for product- and customer-level margins.
  • Improve product and customer cost coverage and accuracy while managing commitments with cross-functional teams.
  • Distribute ownership of runtime and compiler architecture to reduce key-person risk.
  • Use AI tools such as Claude Code and Cursor to improve team productivity.

Requirements

  • Experience managing data platform or data engineering teams building batch and pipeline systems focused on correctness and reproducibility.
  • Experience shipping versioned publications with effective dates, backfills, and reproducible history.
  • Experience owning delivery commitments involving teams outside the reporting line.
  • Domain experience in metering, usage-based billing, cloud cost, revenue data, or financial data platforms.
  • Ability to define contracts, negotiate boundaries, and drive roadmaps independently.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with audited or Finance-closed systems, including SOX scope, month-end close, or revenue recognition.
  • Experience with graph datasets.
  • Experience building retrieval-grounded systems with source citations and appropriate model trust boundaries.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Estimated annual salary: $200,000–$250,000 USD
  • New-hire stock equity (RSUs) and employee stock purchase plan (ESPP).
  • Professional development, product training, and career pathing.
  • Mentor and buddy programs.
  • Mental health benefits and comprehensive healthcare, dental, parental planning, retirement, paid time off, fitness reimbursement, and employee stock purchase benefits.
