Head of Compute

Owns global GPU sourcing, compute economics, contracting, and strategic capacity decisions for an open AI infrastructure platform. The role requires deep AI compute market knowledge, large-scale commercial negotiation experience, financial judgment, and technical fluency across research and engineering workloads.

Responsibilities

  • Own compute economics end-to-end, including contract unit economics, product margin architecture, and long-term P&L implications.
  • Partner with Finance and leadership on capital strategy, commitments, hardware selection, duration, and balance-sheet exposure.
  • Build financial frameworks for evaluating large supply bets under uncertainty.
  • Shape the commercial architecture for committed capacity, spot markets, credit structures, and partner economics.
  • Lead global procurement of GPU capacity across hyperscalers, neoclouds, regional operators, and emerging providers.
  • Negotiate and close reserved-capacity agreements, spot and burst arrangements, MSAs, DPAs, and order forms at nine- and ten-figure scale.
  • Secure early access to new accelerator generations, including B200 and GB200.
  • Build senior provider relationships and position the company as a preferred partner.
  • Translate research roadmaps, RL workloads, and open-model ambitions into compute requirements.
  • Partner with Engineering on acceptance testing, goodput validation, and technical qualification of providers and hardware.
  • Advise on model, customer, accelerator, provider, geography, and contract-structure decisions.
  • Track global pricing, availability, provider dynamics, and upcoming capacity.
  • Serve as the internal source of truth on the compute market and advise leadership on strategic bets.

Requirements

  • Strong business and financial judgment, including unit economics, margin structure, and capital allocation.
  • Deep knowledge of the global AI compute market, providers, accelerator generations, pricing, and market dynamics.
  • Technical fluency sufficient to evaluate vendor specifications, cluster topologies, and workload goodput.
  • Significant experience negotiating and closing large-scale commercial contracts.
  • Ability to operate across finance, commercial, product, and engineering functions.
  • High ownership and ability to identify and solve gaps proactively.
  • AI-native working style using LLMs, automation, and programmatic tools.
