Head of Content Marketing

Leads content strategy and production across long- and short-form formats, coordinating agencies and cross-functional marketing teams while using performance data to optimize content. Requires substantial B2B technology content experience, exceptional writing and editing, and comfort working independently as a contractor.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a content marketing strategy aligned with business goals, target personas, and the buyer’s journey.
  • Write, edit, and manage ebooks, whitepapers, blog posts, thought-leadership articles, case studies, webinars, videos, ad copy, email copy, social copy, and other content from concept through publication.
  • Lead a team of agency content creators and collaborate with Marketing, Product, Sales, Communications, Product Marketing, and Performance Marketing.
  • Translate complex technical topics, customer pain points, and industry trends into clear, engaging content.
  • Manage the content calendar, prioritize requests, and keep stakeholders aligned on timelines and deliverables.
  • Track content performance across syndication channels, including engagement, downloads, and lead quality, and provide recommendations.
  • Optimize content for SEO, lead generation, paid channels, and brand consistency.
  • Manage external agencies, freelancers, and partners as needed.
  • Support campaigns, product launches, and events with tailored content.
  • Stay current on industry trends, competitor content, and best practices.

Requirements

  • 5–8+ years of experience in content marketing, preferably in B2B SaaS or technology.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Experience creating content for technical and business audiences.
  • Strong understanding of technology topics.
  • Willingness to experiment with AI while maintaining human oversight.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Creative thinker with a passion for technology and digital transformation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with the PagerDuty platform or the DevOps, AIOps, or Operations Cloud ecosystem.
  • Experience partnering with performance or paid marketing teams on paid-channel content adaptation.
  • A portfolio spanning long-form thought leadership and conversion-focused copy.
  • Comfort working independently as a contractor and managing shifting priorities.

Compensation and Engagement Terms

  • Contract position, not a full-time employee role.
  • Contract length, hours, and rate will be scoped with the selected contractor based on project needs.
  • Not eligible for employee benefits, equity, or paid time off.
  • Expected to work from the San Francisco office two times per week.
