Build and evolve scalable backend services and APIs foundational to the dbt Cloud platform, collaborating across product, security, QA, and UX. The role requires strong object-oriented programming, API development, testing, architectural design, and a security-minded approach.

Responsibilities
- Build and maintain stable, scalable foundational services for the dbt platform.
- Collaborate with internal partners and product teams to influence API design.
- Design and develop reliable, secure, highly available experiences for dbt Cloud administrators and end users.
- Collaborate with Product Management, UX design, Security, and Customer Support.
- Prioritize and tackle problems autonomously while working iteratively across teams.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers and advocate for platform-focused security.
Requirements
- Strong fundamentals in object-oriented programming.
- Experience designing and building API-driven applications using REST and/or gRPC.
- Experience supporting and evolving APIs through multiple iterations.
- Ability to balance delivery speed with scalable, reusable component design.
- Commitment to design and code reviews.
- Experience writing unit, functional, and integration tests.
- Systematic problem-solving approach, strong communication skills, ownership, and drive.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with authentication protocols such as SAML and OIDC and fine-grained authorization.
- Interest in application-level product security.
- Experience building reliable, mission-critical software for external customers.
- Experience designing and implementing scalable architecture patterns.
- Experience with Datadog or other log-monitoring services for debugging production issues.
