Own complex monthly close workstreams, technical accounting schedules, audit readiness, SOX controls, and an ERP migration while developing a lean accounting team. Responsibilities
- Own critical-path monthly close workstreams, drive open items to completion, escalate blockers, and maintain the close calendar.
- Prepare complex, judgmental accounting areas including stock-based compensation, leases, capitalized software, payroll and compensation accruals, intercompany, and foreign currency.
- Review established areas such as fixed assets, prepaids, cash, recurring accruals, journal entries, accounts payable, and expense reports.
- Own consolidation, the close package, and month-over-month and budget-to-actual variance narratives.
- Coach and develop the Senior Accountant, delegate work effectively, and hire additional accounting staff as the team scales.
- Support the first external audit by preparing PBC packages, leading walkthroughs, and communicating directly with auditors.
- Design documented, evidenced, repeatable close controls suitable for SOX.
- Own close-process design, schedule migration, cutover reconciliations, and parallel-run validation during the ERP migration off Xero.
- Build AI-enabled workflows for reconciliation matching, anomaly detection, schedule and rollforward generation, draft journal entries and variance narratives, PBC assembly, and workflow automation.
Requirements
- 6+ years of progressive accounting experience, including hands-on ownership of technical close areas and experience reviewing another accountant’s work.
- Active CPA preferred; Big Four or national accounting firm experience is a plus.
- Strong operational US GAAP knowledge covering capitalization, equity compensation, leases, payroll and compensation, intercompany, foreign currency, and cutoff.
- Experience with ERP and accounting systems, equity administration platforms such as Carta, payroll systems, close tools such as Numeric, FloQast, or BlackLine, and spend platforms such as Ramp.
- Demonstrated AI-native working style, including daily use of LLMs for accounting work and at least one tool adopted by others in daily operations.
- Comfort building small scripts with Python, SQL, or Google Apps Script for schedules, reconciliations, data pulls, and automation.
- Strong review, coaching, written communication, ownership, integrity, and adaptability.

- Experience preparing for or running a company’s first external audit.
- Experience implementing or migrating an ERP, particularly from a small-business system to a scalable platform.
- SaaS, usage-based, or AI infrastructure accounting experience.
- Exposure to multi-entity and international intercompany accounting.
- SOX control design and documentation experience.
