Senior Engineering Manager, Storage Execution
Leads and develops a storage systems engineering team responsible for MongoDB’s transactional read/write path, durability, availability, and performance. Requires 8+ years building distributed or concurrent systems software and at least 2 years of direct engineering management experience.

Responsibilities
- Lead, grow, and manage a team of 8–10 engineers, establishing clear expectations, high standards, and sustainable execution.
- Own the roadmap across durability, availability, performance, and developer productivity in partnership with OLTP leadership and Product Management.
- Manage customer escalations involving storage behavior and durability; partner with Support, Atlas, and server teams to reproduce, diagnose, and resolve issues.
- Improve engineering processes and tooling, including ownership, code review, customer escalation, and build-failure practices.
- Partner with Replication, Query, Sharding, Catalog & Routing, Storage Engines, and Atlas teams on cross-team features.
- Represent Storage Execution in planning, staffing, and calibration, balancing near-term delivery, availability gaps, and platform investments.
Requirements
- 8+ years building, debugging, and tuning distributed or highly concurrent systems software, such as databases, storage engines, or filesystems.
- 2+ years of direct engineering management experience, including hiring, performance management, and coaching.
- Willingness to work East Coast hours.
- Strong proficiency in at least one compiled, statically typed language such as C++, Rust, or Go; C++ and systems programming experience are a plus.
- Deep understanding of durability, availability, and performance tradeoffs in distributed systems.
- Experience with replication, consensus, storage engines, or transactional systems is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated customer focus and experience handling complex incidents with customers, Support, or cloud teams.
- Ability to mentor and promote engineers, address underperformance, and build high-engagement teams.
- Experience leading multi-quarter initiatives with multiple stakeholders and using written documents to align teams on design, scope, and tradeoffs.
Compensation
- Base salary: $191,000–$265,000 CAD annually.
