Senior Software Engineer
Build and scale backend systems for a universal search platform spanning public safety products, with responsibility for distributed systems, real-time indexing, integrations, security, and production delivery. Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end system design for universal search across RMS, CAD, and other core components.
- Extend platform configurability and connectivity to new search data sources using AI-powered coding tools while maintaining code quality.
- Review pull requests for authorization-layer enhancements and index-mapping configurations, providing architectural and performance-focused feedback.
- Coordinate release logistics, validate release readiness, and ensure smooth production deployments.
- Own delivery of permission-aware global search filtering from technical feasibility through post-release monitoring.
- Mentor junior engineers, pair-program through complex debugging sessions, and help prioritize technical debt.
- Participate in the on-call rotation, resolve failed search queries, and lead root cause analyses to improve observability and alerting.
Requirements
- 4+ years of professional experience in backend engineering and distributed systems.
- Proficiency in Java or TypeScript/JavaScript with strong backend development experience.
- Experience integrating third-party systems to support search functionality across domains.
- Familiarity with event-driven architectures using Amazon SNS, Amazon SQS, or Kinesis.
- Strong experience with AWS services, including Lambda, API Gateway, Step Functions, S3, ECS/EKS, DynamoDB, Aurora/RDS, IAM, and CloudWatch.
- Experience using AI engines to increase development velocity.
- Understanding of indexing strategies, document schema design, and query optimization.
- Experience with CI/CD workflows and Infrastructure as Code in serverless-first, microservices-based architectures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Nice to Have
- Experience with multi-tenant platforms or large-scale search products.
- Familiarity with public safety or regulated domains.
- Knowledge of security best practices for data access and query auditing.
