Responsibilities
- Develop and debug code to identify and fix performance issues.
- Analyze production workloads and system performance metrics to identify bottlenecks.
- Build proof of concepts and translate successful concepts into performance and efficiency improvements.
- Build and maintain a platform focused on product performance, resilience, and quality.
- Develop deep expertise in product, infrastructure, and platform systems.
- Communicate and align strategy with engineering team members; recommend improvements to reliability, performance, practices, and processes.
- Collaborate with developers, product, and SRE teams across the organization.
- Participate in design and code reviews to ensure performant, efficient solutions.
Requirements
- 10+ years of hands-on software industry experience solving complex engineering problems.
- Experience architecting reliable distributed systems, particularly high-volume data management systems.
- Experience building backend services and data systems.
- Strong knowledge of algorithms and data structures.
- Strong Java and database expertise.
Nice-to-haves
- Performance engineering experience, including analyzing, troubleshooting, and automating workloads on large-scale systems.
- Experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure and containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience with cloud warehouses such as Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, and Databricks.
- Familiarity with system-level programming, including process and memory management and inter-process communication.
- Knowledge of observability tools such as New Relic, Splunk, or Datadog.

- Oakland pay range: $232,338–$290,422 USD.
