Staff Software Engineer - Reporting & Billing

Responsibilities

• Architect and own the transactions data model for user activity, workflows, decisions, steps, and outcomes.
• Design and build customer reporting-data delivery through query APIs, scheduled and on-demand exports, webhooks, and event streams.
• Own API contracts, delivery SLAs, versioning, backward compatibility, and deprecation.
• Lead the design and implementation of usage metering and billing automation that produces accurate, auditable charges.
• Ensure availability, correctness, observability, data quality, reconciliation, query performance, incident response, security, privacy, and audit compliance at production scale.
• Provide technical leadership through code reviews, design discussions, architectural guidance, and mentorship.
• Champion AI-assisted engineering practices using tools such as Claude Code and Cursor.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating high-availability, correctness-critical backend and data systems.
• Experience leading complex, cross-team technical initiatives from definition through delivery.
• Deep experience with relational databases and SQL, including schema design, complex queries, query performance, and safe production schema evolution.
• Experience designing and versioning APIs using Java, Kotlin, Go, or similar languages.
• Proficiency with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code and Cursor.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience influencing engineering, product, finance, and security stakeholders.
• Hands-on experience designing and owning event-driven architectures using Kafka, Pub/Sub, SNS, Debezium, or similar technologies.
• Experience designing or operating usage-based metering and billing systems.

Nice to have

• Experience with Salesforce, NetSuite, and Snowflake, especially in automated quote-to-cash or usage-to-invoice pipelines.
• Experience building customer-facing reporting APIs, bulk export pipelines, streaming event feeds, and related developer experiences.
• Experience evolving platform APIs used by internal teams and external customers through design, versioning, and deprecation.
• Experience automating manual, spreadsheet-driven business processes.
• Familiarity with NIST 800-63-3, OAuth 2.0, or OpenID Connect.
• Experience in government, healthcare, or financial-services environments.
• Experience improving engineering culture through documentation, technical standards, architectural review, and developer-experience improvements.

Compensation and benefits

• Annual base salary: $222,011–$258,300.
• Additional bonus or sales incentive, equity, and benefits may be provided based on qualifications and other factors.
