Staff Engineer - Growth - Verifications
Own the technical direction and architecture of highly reliable KYC/KYB verification systems, including vendor integrations, fail-closed behavior, auditability, and security. Requires about eight years of production systems experience, deep Rust expertise, and strong distributed-systems and regulated-domain experience.

Responsibilities
- Set the technical direction for verification services and contracts across KYC/KYB workflows.
- Define abstractions for KYC and KYB vendors to prevent provider failures from causing outages.
- Design fail-closed behavior and audit trails suitable for regulatory scrutiny.
- Identify recurring failure classes and eliminate their root causes.
- Write and drive architecture decision records (ADRs).
- Enforce security and compliance during system design.
- Mentor senior engineers through design reviews, code contributions, and direct feedback.
- Improve verification speed, automation, decision accuracy, system availability, and team effectiveness.
Requirements
- Around 8 years of experience building and operating production systems.
- Experience owning a domain’s technical direction and setting architecture used by other engineers.
- Deep expertise in Rust, with the ability to work across TypeScript and React.
- Experience designing distributed systems, service contracts, and secure systems.
- Experience integrating unreliable third-party APIs using timeouts, retries, idempotency, circuit breakers, and tested backup paths.
- Experience in compliance, payments, security, or another domain where incorrect decisions have significant consequences.
- Experience improving engineering teams through patterns, tooling, or mentoring.
- Comfort with or ability to quickly learn gRPC, Temporal, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, MySQL/MariaDB, Redis, and GitLab CI.
Nice to Have
- Direct experience with KYC, KYB, or fraud systems.
- Experience integrating providers such as Trulioo, Persona, or ComplyAdvantage.
- Experience building systems with AI in the loop.
- Experience in crypto, fintech, or another highly regulated industry.
