Software Engineer II, Frontend Agentic AI

Builds polished frontend experiences for autonomous AI workers, including conversational interfaces, memory views, live run timelines, and human approval flows. Requires deep React and TypeScript expertise, real-time UI experience, and at least five years of relevant professional experience.

About the job

Responsibilities

  • Build conversational interfaces for long-horizon agents, including streaming responses, tool calls, pause and interrupt controls, and mid-task steering.
  • Design and ship memory-management interfaces that let users view, edit, and delete agent memories and understand the context an agent uses.
  • Build live agent-run views for plans, steps, artifacts, retries, and results, rendered in real time over WebSockets or server-sent events.
  • Build human-in-the-loop approval surfaces for agent actions that write to external systems, including clear diffs of proposed actions.
  • Build the Worker Builder interface for designing and configuring digital workers in natural language.
  • Manage complex client state for long-running agent sessions, including reconnection, optimistic updates, partial results, and failure recovery.
  • Create a reusable component library for agentic interaction patterns.
  • Present model output accurately in the UI, including citations, uncertainty, errors, and empty states.
  • Collaborate with backend and agent engineers to shape APIs and event streams.
  • Optimize performance across devices while agents stream large numbers of events.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of front-end engineering experience; the role requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience overall.
  • Deep expertise with React, TypeScript, and modern state management, including hooks, context, and state machines.
  • Experience building chat, copilot, or other LLM-powered interfaces in production.
  • Hands-on experience with real-time UIs, including WebSockets, server-sent events, streaming rendering, and reconnection handling.
  • Strong product sense and ability to design interaction patterns where established standards do not exist.
  • Experience integrating front ends with LLM APIs and handling streamed, partial, and structured model outputs.
  • Experience translating designs into fast, polished, responsive production code.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort working directly with users to refine experiences.

Nice-to-haves

  • Shipped a chat or agent product used by thousands of users.
  • Familiarity with LangChain, LangGraph, or equivalent agent frameworks.
  • Experience with AI front-end SDKs such as the Vercel AI SDK.
  • Experience with design systems, accessibility standards, and component library ownership.
  • Experience visualizing complex processes such as timelines, graphs, or workflow builders.
  • Prior experience at a high-growth venture-backed AI or SaaS startup.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Annual base salary: $140,000–$192,000 USD for candidates located in the San Francisco Bay Area.
  • Equity, where applicable, bonus, health, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), flexible spending account, and paid leave including PTO and parental leave.
  • In-person onboarding experience.
