MethodMethod

Design Engineer

The Design Engineer will build and own high-craft interactive web experiences, design systems, dashboards, and dynamic UI using React, Three.js, WebGL, and shaders. The role requires strong visual judgment, frontend architecture expertise, and the ability to independently ship polished product and marketing experiences.

About the job

Responsibilities

  • Own the visual and interactive quality of Method’s design system, including component states, motion, and consistency across surfaces.
  • Build shader-based website experiences using Three.js and WebGL, including hero sections, ambient motion, and branded interactive moments.
  • Redesign and elevate the dashboard with polished transitions, data visualization, and generative UI components driven by JSON.
  • Architect a component library for dynamic, structured-data-driven UI construction, including charts, layouts, and other elements.
  • Evaluate bespoke work versus existing tooling and communicate tradeoffs clearly.
  • Reduce reliance on contractors for production design and front-end UI work.
  • Collaborate with engineers and the Head of Design on design direction.
  • Help scope and hire adjacent design talent as the team grows.

Requirements

  • Shipped interactive web work involving shaders, Three.js, WebGL, and GLSL, demonstrated in a portfolio.
  • Understanding of the full stack from GPU rendering to React component architecture, including browser-based rendering.
  • Strong visual judgment and the technical ability to execute designs independently.
  • Experience building production design systems and component libraries that are used by others.
  • Individual-contributor mindset with a hands-on approach to building.
  • Experience in design studios, developer tooling companies, creative agencies, or high-craft independent development.
  • Ability to work independently as the sole specialist in this area.

Nice-to-haves

  • Background in creative coding, gaming, or CGI.
  • Open-source contributions to Three.js, shader communities, or creative-coding libraries.
  • Experience with Rive, Framer, or Lottie, and judgment about when to use them versus custom implementations.
  • Experience at companies or studios known for front-end craft.
  • Familiarity with generative UI patterns and JSON-driven component rendering.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Annual US base salary: $150,000–$200,000 USD.
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage; basic medical plans are 100% covered.
  • Flexible PTO.
  • $30/day lunch allowance when working from the office.
  • 12 weeks of parental leave.
  • Commuter benefits.
  • Phone/internet and work-from-home stipends.
  • Student loan repayment contribution.
  • Lifestyle spending and learning and development stipends.
  • Stocked hybrid office with snacks.
  • Quarterly team off-sites.
  • Regular in-person presence expected at a hub, generally at least 2–3 days per week.
