Responsibilities
- Lead and grow the Maps & Search team through hiring, onboarding, coaching, 1:1s, feedback, and career development.
- Contribute directly through coding and design reviews, architecture, and complex debugging.
- Own and scale a high-throughput search platform handling approximately 1 billion monthly requests and hundreds of millions of listings.
- Drive search architecture, relevance, latency, reliability, quality, incident response, and capacity planning.
- Own the home discovery experience across web and mobile, improving engagement, lead conversion, and agent workflows.
- Advance AI-powered discovery using LLMs and intelligent ranking.
- Partner with product and design to shape the roadmap, translate user and business needs into technical plans, and deliver initiatives end to end.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including meaningful senior- or staff-level experience.
- 2+ years managing engineering teams.
- Experience with search, relevance, ranking, or retrieval systems.
- Deep expertise in TypeScript, Node.js, and React, with full-stack fluency.
- Experience designing and operating scalable microservice architectures in cloud-native environments; AWS preferred.
- Strong understanding of GraphQL, event-driven systems, Kafka, and databases including PostgreSQL and OpenSearch.
- Experience operating high-traffic, low-latency production systems at scale.
- Experience leading high-impact initiatives from concept through production in a SaaS environment.
- Strong communication, technical judgment, systems thinking, and ability to operate effectively amid ambiguity and rapid change.
- Experience using AI as a core part of the software development workflow.
