Manager, Engineering - Device Identity and Access
Leads engineering teams building Okta’s device identity and access products across client platforms and large-scale cloud services. The role requires extensive enterprise software experience, formal engineering management experience, and deep expertise in endpoint security and distributed SaaS systems.

Responsibilities
- Lead and inspire a cross-functional team of engineers, fostering collaboration, psychological safety, and operational excellence.
- Partner with Engineering Directors, Architects, and Product Management to define the technical vision and execute the strategic roadmap.
- Guide architectural design and critical code reviews while prioritizing reliability, scalability, and code simplicity.
- Own recruitment, mentorship, and professional development for engineers.
- Facilitate agile planning, manage cross-functional dependencies, and deliver critical security features on schedule.
- Contribute as a technical stakeholder across the Access Management Pillar.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in enterprise software development, including at least 3 years in formal engineering leadership or management roles.
- Experience developing massive-scale, multi-tenant SaaS applications; Java and Spring Boot experience preferred.
- Strong conceptual understanding of client-side development across iOS, macOS, Windows, Linux, or Android.
- Deep understanding of endpoint security concepts, including TPMs, Secure Enclaves, MDM protocols, and continuous risk evaluation.
- Understanding of how OS-level security features securely report state to cloud services.
- Exceptional communication skills, including communicating complex technical concepts to executive leadership.
- Proficiency with AI coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot while maintaining code quality and security standards.
- Passion for cybersecurity and a customer-centric approach.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
Nice-to-haves
- Familiarity with FIDO, WebAuthn, SSO, SAML, OAuth, and federation.
- Knowledge of advanced cybersecurity principles, secure coding practices, CISSP, or Security+.
- Experience with microservice architecture and distributed systems at scale.
- Familiarity with ReactJS.
