Responsibilities
- Lead the News & Politics category and grow its creator economy on Substack.
- Recruit and advise top news and politics talent, including creators, writers, reporters, politicians, and industry leaders.
- Develop strategic programs to activate creators, acquire users, and support existing creators.
- Build and scale best practices for social media strategy, audience development, and digital content.
- Partner with communications, product, data, business operations, marketing, brand, and leadership teams to identify creator segments and improve the creator experience.
- Enhance politics outreach and streamline creator onboarding and support processes.
- Support events, brand initiatives, and marketing programs.
- Represent Substack as a platform for independent media, direct audience relationships, and sustainable media businesses.
- Own market strategy, budget, external relationships, goals, and execution.
- Manage and develop a team, including direct reports.
- Travel for team-building and strategic meetings.
Requirements
- 10 years of professional experience in news, publishing, or politics.
- Experience managing a team and direct reports.
- Established connections within the news and politics markets.
- Strong written, verbal, diplomatic, and people skills.
- Experience working directly with creators.
- Comfort using data to measure impact and improve programs.
- Ability to manage multiple projects quickly and effectively under deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and adaptability in a fast-paced startup environment.
- Deep interest in creators, culture, news, politics, and the evolving technology and media landscape.
Compensation
- Cash compensation salary range: $190,000–$250,000.
- Equity is provided for all full-time roles, along with benefits.
