Senior Commercial Counsel

Responsibilities

• Negotiate and close commercial agreements and ancillary documents for customer sales and partner engagements across India and Southeast Asia.
• Lead negotiations with Indian and Southeast Asian customers, including customers in regulated sectors such as BFSI.
• Provide practical legal guidance to internal teams, balancing legal risk with business objectives.
• Coach sales team members on negotiation strategies and deliver internal training sessions and office hours.
• Improve contract templates, playbooks, and processes to reflect emerging laws and regulations in India and Southeast Asia.
• Contribute to knowledge-sharing, mentorship, team initiatives, and special projects.
• Build relationships with stakeholders across APJ, including Deal Desk, People/HR, Procurement, and regional sales leadership.

Requirements

• At least 8 years of law firm and/or in-house commercial transactional experience across Indian and other Southeast Asian jurisdictions.
• Qualification in Singapore or another relevant jurisdiction.
• Deep expertise advising on Indian law and navigating complex regulatory environments, including sector-specific requirements for regulated industries such as BFSI.
• Strong familiarity with negotiating SaaS contracts and related technology matters, including privacy, security, intellectual property, and AI.
• Fluency in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to negotiate, communicate, educate, and lead sensitive conversations with legal and business counterparts.
• Excellent judgment, integrity, emotional intelligence, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work independently, follow established processes, and recognize when to seek guidance.
• Ability to prioritize multiple deals, meet tight deadlines, and partner effectively with sales and clients.
• Ability to work from the Singapore office on a hybrid basis.
