Manager, Commercial Credit Risk - Europe

Leads commercial credit underwriting, portfolio monitoring, credit operations, and policy development across Europe. The role requires at least five years of commercial credit experience, strong analytical judgment, and the ability to partner with sales, product, and operations teams.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite commercial credit requests using financial and bank statements, funding and investment history, commercial credit bureau data, and macroeconomic and industry data.
  • Lead and continuously improve credit operations, including workflow management, queue prioritization, operational metrics, and process optimization.
  • Monitor portfolio performance across Europe, identify emerging risks, and provide actionable insights to leadership.
  • Own credit decisions within delegated authority and advise on complex commercial credit opportunities.
  • Develop underwriting policies and approval frameworks that balance portfolio performance, customer experience, and commercial growth.
  • Identify opportunities to use automation, AI, and data analytics to improve underwriting efficiency while maintaining strong risk controls.
  • Partner with Sales, Account Management, and Customer Success to evaluate complex opportunities, resolve credit issues, and deliver timely decisions.
  • Partner with internal and external technology teams to improve and innovate the credit risk management technology stack.

Requirements

  • Experience underwriting businesses across multiple European jurisdictions, including differences in financial reporting, bureau data, and local business practices.
  • 5+ years of commercial credit underwriting, ratings, or related experience.
  • Multilingual fluency is strongly preferred.
  • Experience developing credit risk management policy and credit approval frameworks.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and make sound decisions in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Experience using internal portfolio, macroeconomic, industry, and external data to develop risk appetite frameworks, credit policies, and forward-looking forecasts.
  • Very strong analytical experience.
  • Strong partnership skills and success working with Sales, client management, product, and operations.
  • Hands-on experience in a fintech or startup environment.
  • Experience working with financial and transactional data.
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with operational execution.

  • Commercial card, B2B credit, or travel-industry credit risk management experience.
