Senior Backend Engineer, Billing
Builds and operates backend services for plans, pricing, entitlements, usage metering, and billing integrations. The role requires 6+ years of software engineering experience, backend expertise, cloud infrastructure familiarity, and strong production ownership in correctness-critical systems.

Responsibilities
- Design and build systems that define plans, pricing, entitlements, and limits, exposing them through APIs.
- Decompose billing functionality from a monolith into correct, testable, independently deployable services.
- Own end-to-end correctness across usage metering, reconciliation, invoices, and customer-visible usage data.
- Operate production systems, including SLOs, alerting, on-call, and root-cause remediation.
Requirements
- 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant work on complex backend applications.
- Experience decomposing a monolith.
- A track record with systems where correctness is non-negotiable, including idempotency, reconciliation, reversible migrations, and safe cutovers.
- Proficiency in at least one backend language, such as Go, Rust, or Python.
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure such as AWS or equivalent.
- Strong production ownership, including on-call responsibilities.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with billing, payments, metering systems, or usage-based pricing.
- Experience modeling entitlements, quotas, or multi-tenant limits.
Compensation and Benefits
- Zone 1: $191,800–$263,670 for San Francisco/Bay Area or NYC Metropolitan Area, Boston, and Seattle.
- Zone 2: $172,600–$237,270 for Irvine, Los Angeles, Monterey, Santa Barbara, Santa Rosa, Austin, Portland, Philadelphia, and Chicago.
- Zone 3: $163,000–$224,070 for all other US locations.
- Compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.
