Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate distributed systems that deliver feature-flag configuration to LaunchDarkly SDKs.
- Own and improve the reliability, latency, and scalability of streaming and polling infrastructure.
- Debug and resolve complex production issues and participate in the team’s on-call rotation.
- Partner with SDK, Core Product, and Data Platform teams on how flags reach customers.
- Write maintainable, well-tested code and participate in code reviews, design reviews, and production-readiness discussions.
- Drive architectural decisions, balancing performance, cost, and operability.
- Improve observability, deployment safety, and operational processes for Flag Delivery.
Requirements
- 6+ years of professional backend engineering experience, including significant work on distributed or high-throughput production systems.
- Experience designing, building, operating, and debugging reliable, low-latency services.
- Strong production ownership, including on-call experience and a focus on reliability and observability.
- Proficiency in at least one backend language such as Go, Rust, or Python.
- Experience with a cloud platform such as AWS or an equivalent.
- Hands-on experience with infrastructure as code, such as Terraform or an equivalent.
- Experience with observability tools such as Datadog, Prometheus, or New Relic.
- Deep understanding of distributed-systems fundamentals, including concurrency, partitioning, retries, idempotency, backpressure, and failure handling.
- Ability to write clean, maintainable code and collaborate on technical design.
- Clear communication and a strong commitment to operational excellence.
Compensation and Benefits
- Zone 1: $191,800–$263,670 for San Francisco/Bay Area or NYC Metropolitan Area, Boston, and Seattle.
- Zone 2: $172,600–$237,270 for Irvine, LA, Monterey, Santa Barbara, Santa Rosa, Austin, Portland, Philadelphia, and Chicago.
- Zone 3: $163,000–$224,070 for all other US locations.
- Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.
