Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate distributed systems that deliver feature-flag configuration to LaunchDarkly SDKs.
  • Own and improve the reliability, latency, and scalability of streaming and polling infrastructure.
  • Debug and resolve complex production issues and participate in the team’s on-call rotation.
  • Partner with SDK, Core Product, and Data Platform teams on how flags reach customers.
  • Write maintainable, well-tested code and participate in code reviews, design reviews, and production-readiness discussions.
  • Drive architectural decisions, balancing performance, cost, and operability.
  • Improve observability, deployment safety, and operational processes for Flag Delivery.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of professional backend engineering experience, including significant work on distributed or high-throughput production systems.
  • Experience designing, building, operating, and debugging reliable, low-latency services.
  • Strong production ownership, including on-call experience and a focus on reliability and observability.
  • Proficiency in at least one backend language such as Go, Rust, or Python.
  • Experience with a cloud platform such as AWS or an equivalent.
  • Hands-on experience with infrastructure as code, such as Terraform or an equivalent.
  • Experience with observability tools such as Datadog, Prometheus, or New Relic.
  • Deep understanding of distributed-systems fundamentals, including concurrency, partitioning, retries, idempotency, backpressure, and failure handling.
  • Ability to write clean, maintainable code and collaborate on technical design.
  • Clear communication and a strong commitment to operational excellence.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Zone 1: $191,800–$263,670 for San Francisco/Bay Area or NYC Metropolitan Area, Boston, and Seattle.
  • Zone 2: $172,600–$237,270 for Irvine, LA, Monterey, Santa Barbara, Santa Rosa, Austin, Portland, Philadelphia, and Chicago.
  • Zone 3: $163,000–$224,070 for all other US locations.
  • Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.
