Software Engineering Intern
Software engineering interns will build AI- and data-processing systems or ship privacy and security features in the Brave browser. The roles require current Waterloo University enrollment and experience with relevant programming languages, backend or browser technologies, and collaborative software development.

Responsibilities
- Build and maintain ETL pipelines for ingesting, transforming, and loading structured and unstructured data across internal systems.
- Develop backend services and tooling in Python and TypeScript for data-processing workflows and API integrations.
- Integrate and optimize LLM inference pipelines, including prompt engineering, model serving, and evaluation of large language model outputs.
- Deploy and manage containerized workloads on Kubernetes, including writing manifests, configuring autoscaling, and troubleshooting cluster issues.
- Improve data quality, pipeline reliability, and system observability with cross-functional teams.
- Prototype, implement, and ship privacy-enhancing browser features in C++ or Rust.
- Build browser-native privacy protections, permission controls, and anti-fingerprinting defenses.
- Work with the Web security model and Chromium architecture in a large codebase.
- Use HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to develop and validate browser features.
- Collaborate asynchronously with a geographically distributed open-source team using Git and GitHub.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Current student at Waterloo University.
- Ability to work a fall-semester internship remotely.
- Programming experience with Python, TypeScript, C++, or Rust.
- Familiarity with data processing, backend services, APIs, or browser development.
- Interest or experience in AI, privacy, and security technologies.
Compensation and Benefits
- Compensation of $6,000.00 per month for 3 months.
