Leads a technical engineering team responsible for large-scale distributed services and GitLab Dedicated infrastructure. Responsibilities
- Lead a technical engineering team building and operating large-scale distributed systems and Dedicated infrastructure.
- Partner with Product Management to deliver with quality and speed.
- Maintain at least 99.9% availability while improving security, scalability, tenant capacity, and self-service production ownership.
- Set direction, provide feedback, foster accountability, and automate toil and repetitive processes.
- Recruit, onboard, develop, and manage high-performing team members.
- Build proofs of concept, demonstrate AI-enabled workflows, simplify processes, and remove manual effort.
- Model incident-management best practices, lead incident resolution and escalations, and codify practices across the organization.
- Use data to prioritize work, quantify impact, and manage risk and technical debt.
- Translate technical complexity into stakeholder decisions.
Requirements
- Proven experience building and owning large-scale distributed services, including architectural and technical-strategy guidance.
- Experience operating services with four-nines (99.99%) SLOs and driving operational excellence.
- Experience using AI tooling to improve team productivity, including lessons from successful and unsuccessful implementations.
- Experience building and managing high-performing, accountable teams.
- Ability to manage performance, including making difficult personnel decisions when necessary.
- Experience driving complex projects to completion without dedicated technical program management support.
- Experience effectively leading distributed and remote teams.
