Software Engineering Manager, SDK
Leads and grows the SDK engineering team responsible for Sanity’s open-source App SDK and developer tooling. The player-coach role combines people leadership, roadmap ownership, technical direction, API design, and hands-on guidance, requiring strong TypeScript, React, and software engineering experience.

Responsibilities
- Lead and grow the SDK engineering team, helping engineers prioritize impact, develop their careers, and deliver excellent work.
- Own strategy, roadmap, and execution with product and design partners.
- Set technical direction across a large-scale TypeScript codebase and guide architecture decisions.
- Design and ship minimal, developer-friendly APIs for internal and external developers.
- Stay hands-on through technical reviews, pairing, and code contributions.
- Operate the open-source project, including triage, contribution paths, changelogs, and releases.
- Champion developer experience, including type generation, hot reload, and one-command deployment.
- Measure SDK adoption, deployed apps, and time-to-first-app.
- Collaborate with engineering leadership, product, design, DevRel, and partnerships.
Requirements
- 3+ years of engineering leadership experience and 5+ years as a software engineer.
- Deep experience with TypeScript and React, including state management, hooks, module systems, bundling, and browser concepts.
- Experience building libraries, SDKs, or developer tools used by other engineers.
- Experience as an engineering manager or senior engineer at a product or SaaS company.
- Experience partnering with product managers and designers to deliver for technical and non-technical users.
- Comfortable working with remote and distributed teams.
- Strong written and verbal technical communication.
- Pragmatic approach to balancing quality with delivery speed.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with Go, Vite, or Zustand.
- Meaningful open-source project maintenance experience.
- API or SDK design experience at a developer platform company.
- Perspective on AI-assisted development and SDK design.
- Automated browser testing and Node.js experience.
