Senior Software Engineer - Database Connectors
Build and maintain enterprise-grade PostgreSQL database connector capabilities for large customers, focusing on performance, scalability, reliability, and security. Responsibilities
- Independently design, develop, and support enterprise capabilities for Fivetran’s largest customers.
- Manage and lead projects, coordinating with stakeholders to ensure timely, high-quality delivery in an iterative development environment.
- Maintain and improve existing enterprise features and advocate for improvements to the codebase and infrastructure.
- Maintain high standards for code quality, performance, scalability, and reliability through thorough testing and reviews.
- Collaborate with peers, product managers, customer support, and other stakeholders.
- Improve the reliability and security of customers’ data infrastructure.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends.
- Conduct design and code reviews.
- Participate periodically in an on-call rotation.
- Mentor and support junior developers.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in the software industry.
- Strong knowledge of object-oriented programming, preferably with Java.
- Strong knowledge of databases and query performance tuning.
- Ability to write well-structured, performant code.
- Ability to define project requirements and design software and infrastructure to satisfy them.
- Experience translating customer requirements or problems into engineering tasks.
- Understanding of how to build high-performance systems and processes.
- Strong written and verbal English skills.
- Experience with continuous integration tools such as Buildkite or CircleCI.
- Experience working in a cloud environment with AWS, GCP, Kubernetes, Docker, Buildkite, or similar technologies.
- Ability to use AI code assistants and coding agents to generate code for features, bugs, testing, and investigation.
Nice to Have
- Experience with data processing, including ETL or ELT, and cloud-based platforms.
- Hands-on experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Experience with containerization methodologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Expertise in PostgreSQL internals.
