About the role

Responsibilities

  • Serve as product counsel for the Stripe Terminal team, helping to expand product offerings.
  • Counsel the Stripe product team on regulatory, consumer protection, marketing, intellectual property, and data privacy issues.
  • Collaborate with engineering, compliance, business development, and marketing teams on product development and commercialization.
  • Work with legal team colleagues to clear issues impacting regulatory structure, customer agreements, and strategic financial partnerships.
  • Build scalable processes for legal review and launch of new products.
  • Draft, review, and update foundational documents for product and service offerings.
  • Stay current on U.S. and international laws regarding privacy, data security, consumer protection, financial services, and marketing.
  • Partner with senior managers as a trusted advisor.
  • Develop deep subject matter expertise in Stripe Terminal products and serve as legal point of contact for escalations.

Requirements

  • 6+ years as a qualified lawyer working on complex regulatory or technology matters, preferably with technology companies on product development.
  • Passion for technology and ability to understand complex business models and product use cases quickly.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and project management skills with strict attention to detail.
  • Excellent judgment and ability to make smart decisions under ambiguity and imperfect information.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience in financial technology, risk, payments, and financial services with working knowledge of financial regulations.
  • Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts (hardware, supply chain, and transportation/logistics agreements preferred).
