Senior Backend Engineer - Commerce Platform
Build and evolve scalable backend services and data pipelines powering Spotify’s global commerce platform, including billing, invoicing, and payments. The role requires 5+ years of backend experience, cloud and database expertise, and exposure to financial systems.

Responsibilities
- Design and build scalable backend systems for Spotify’s internal commerce platform.
- Develop and evolve services and data pipelines supporting invoicing, receipts, and payment flows.
- Build and operate high-scale distributed systems handling millions of transactions daily.
- Collaborate with engineering, product, and data partners to deliver seamless user experiences.
- Contribute to architectural decisions shaping the commerce ecosystem.
- Improve system performance, reliability, and observability across services.
- Participate in technical deep dives, code reviews, and knowledge sharing.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience building backend services.
- Experience with Python, Java, or similar programming languages.
- Experience designing and scaling systems on cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform or AWS.
- Experience with scalable database technologies such as PostgreSQL.
- High AI fluency and thoughtful use of modern tools, including large language models.
- Strong communication and technical discussion skills.
- Experience modernizing or evolving legacy systems while maintaining stability.
- Exposure to commerce, payments, or financial systems.
- Collaborative approach and sound technical judgment.
Work Arrangement
- Hybrid role based in London or Stockholm.
- Requires some in-person meetings, with flexibility to work from home.
