Responsibilities
Tax Projections and Forecasting
- Create comprehensive income tax projections for clients.
- Develop detailed tax liability forecasts based on financial status and changes.
- Construct tax scenarios for financial decisions like employment changes, investments, or family status.
Withholding and Payments
- Identify under/over-withholding and guide W-4 adjustments.
- Assist with quarterly estimated tax payments, calculations, and due dates.
- Advise on IRS Safe Harbor rules to avoid penalties.
Strategic Tax Planning
- Develop strategies to minimize liabilities in retirement planning (IRAs, Roth IRAs, 401(k)), charitable giving (donor-advised funds), education savings (529 plans), stock options/RSUs/ISOs/NSOs, AMT, real property investments (1031 exchanges), SALT, international taxation, estate/gift taxes.
- Analyze household data for tax optimization with financial planning team.
Tax Return Review and Filing
- Review individual tax returns for accuracy and compliance.
- Maintain tax records and documentation.
- File returns and resolve issues.
- Provide audit support.
Continuous Improvement
- Recommend process improvements for tax preparation and review.
Requirements
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Enrolled Agent (EA), or equivalent tax expertise required.
- 7+ years experience in tax planning and return review.
- In-depth knowledge of federal, state, local tax laws (individual taxation, estates/gifts/trusts, passive investments).
- Proficiency in tax software and financial analysis tools.
- Excellent communication skills to explain concepts to non-experts.
- High attention to detail.
- Team collaboration skills.
