About the job
Responsibilities

- Define what a Tailscale-native application means through reference architectures, golden paths, embedding patterns, documentation, examples, and sample applications.
- Own the developer experience end to end, including onboarding, API ergonomics, error messages, documentation, examples, and upgrade paths.
- Set the Rust SDK family strategy, including capabilities to port, sequencing, and developer positioning.
- Treat the CLI as a product, focusing on scripting ergonomics, output conventions, automation surfaces, CI, and infrastructure-as-code.
- Run the internal dogfood loop with Aperture and Tailscale PAM teams.
- Partner with GTM and Customer Success on embedding deals involving AI platforms, developer tools, and infrastructure software.
- Engage developers through GitHub issues, Discord, and office hours to understand their needs.
Requirements
- 6+ years of product management experience, or a software engineering background transitioning into product, with substantial experience on a developer-facing product such as an SDK, API, CLI, library, or developer tool.
- Experience shipping developer-facing features used in production and managing design choices involving naming, defaults, error behavior, and versioning.
- Ability to read Go and/or Rust and discuss API and SDK design credibly.
- Strong developer-experience judgment, including API ergonomics, documentation, error messages, and getting-started flows.
- Experience conducting developer-focused customer research through GitHub issues, Discord, office hours, and related channels.
- Ability to turn ambiguous scope into shipped increments and close the loop after launch.
Nice to Have
- Hands-on Go or Rust experience.
- Experience at a developer-platform company with a strong SDK motion, such as Stripe, Twilio, Auth0, Vercel, Supabase, or HashiCorp.
- Open-source community experience, including contributions, issue triage, and balancing commercial priorities with community needs.
- Familiarity with networking, zero trust, or VPNs.
- Experience designing CLIs or scripting surfaces for platform and SRE teams.
- Public technical writing, talks, open-source contributions, or developer-tooling side projects.
- Experience using LLMs and coding agents in product workflows.

- Employer-funded retirement contributions matching employee contributions dollar-for-dollar, up to a maximum annual employer contribution equal to 0.75% of eligible compensation.
- Annual company retreat, team off-sites, and support for intentional in-person collaboration.
- $1500 USD annually for professional development, plus mentorship, coaching, and internal promotion opportunities.
