Staff Design Engineer
This staff-level Design Engineer will design and implement polished product experiences, improve Ashby’s design system, and advise engineers on complex UI and UX problems. The role requires professional Design Engineering experience, strong visual design execution, and the ability to ship and iterate quickly using customer feedback.

Responsibilities
- Design and code product experiences, combining visual design, UX, and technical implementation.
- Work on challenging design problems across Ashby’s recruiting product.
- Expand and enhance the in-house design system and create flexible, composable components.
- Consult with Product Engineers on bespoke design work, information hierarchy, and scannability.
- Conduct customer conversations, wireframe flows, implement designs, and iterate based on feedback.
- Ship quickly, gather feedback from subsets of users and internal teams, and improve features over time.
- Participate in customer issue investigation and other team-wide responsibilities.
Requirements
- Professional experience practicing Design Engineering, whether or not under a formal Design Engineer title.
- Major contributions to a design system.
- Experience designing and implementing product features used by hundreds of users and iterating based on user feedback.
- Excellent visual design taste and execution.
- Strong proficiency in both design and engineering, with exceptional proficiency in the discipline practiced full-time.
- Ability to work with limited process and independently drive projects to completion.
- Collaborative communication and comfort taking ownership of product and design decisions.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience designing and shipping polished UI for complex products.
- Experience with mobile web applications, setup wizards, recruiting workflows, or design systems.
Compensation and benefits
- Annual salary range: $154,000–$250,000.
