Business Operations Lead

Build operational infrastructure from scratch as the first Business Operations hire at a scaling fintech startup. Own cross-team coordination, workload visibility, operational cadence, staffing, and vendor logistics to enable sustainable growth without adding bureaucracy.

About the job

What You'll Own

  • Cross-team coordination: Maintain visibility into who's working on what across product, design, engineering, and implementations. Assess capacity for new bank onboarding and present staffing options.
  • Workload visibility and risk tracking: Build and run systems for weekly views of team load, active work, and delivery risks. Surface early warnings for stalled projects, overloaded teams, or customer concerns.
  • Operational rhythm: Own meeting agendas for leads syncs, cycle kickoffs, action item tracking, OOO planning, and scheduling 90-day reviews to maintain company cadence.
  • Staffing and project coordination: Handle reassignments, PTO coverage, escalation routing, and real-time updates to coverage maps to prevent dropped items.
  • Vendor and logistics management: Coordinate office space, software contracts, expense approvals, travel booking for offsites and team meetups (in collaboration with People Operations).

What We're Looking For

  • 3-6 years of experience at a startup scaling from 15 to 80 people, having lived through the shift from informal "everyone does everything" to structured operations.
  • Prior responsibility for cross-functional coordination (e.g., Ops Manager, Business Operations, Chief of Staff, Program Manager, or senior consulting role).
  • Strong writer and communicator capable of creating operational documentation, staffing plans, project trackers, agendas, status reports, and process docs.
  • Relentlessly organized without being bureaucratic; adds minimal effective structure.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and variety in daily tasks.
  • Direct and unintimidated when providing feedback to team leads and founders.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in B2B, enterprise software, or fintech.
  • Familiarity with tools like Linear, Notion, Pylon, Mixpanel.
  • Experience supporting technical teams (engineering, design, product).

Benefits

  • Equity, sponsored 401K, parental leave, fully paid health/vision/dental insurance.
  • Unlimited PTO, remote work stipend, lifestyle stipend, twice-yearly company retreats.
  • Periodic team meetups in NYC and SF.
