Responsibilities
- Design and optimize highly available Java microservices powering the core payments and tokenization platform.
- Build authentication, authorization, audit logging, observability, and other foundational services.
- Use AI-augmented development tools to automate boilerplate, improve testing, and increase engineering productivity.
- Automate operational workflows with GitOps, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code.
- Deploy and operate self-healing, containerized systems in cloud environments.
- Monitor services with Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry; participate in on-call rotations.
- Lead blameless postmortems and drive improvements after incidents.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to create and adopt Golden Paths for software delivery.
- Mentor engineers and promote high standards for code quality and testing.
- Own services end to end while balancing security, latency, reliability, and internal developer adoption.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software engineering experience owning features end to end in complex, high-throughput distributed systems.
- Proficiency in Java, Spring or Spring Boot, REST APIs, and microservice design patterns.
- Hands-on experience with event-driven architecture, Kafka or SQS, and relational database performance tuning.
- Strong experience deploying and operating containerized applications with Docker and Kubernetes or EKS.
- Cloud experience, preferably AWS.
- Ability to write secure code, design secure APIs, and work in regulated environments such as PCI-DSS and SOC2.
- Demonstrated ownership, initiative, and ability to solve complex technical problems independently.
Nice to Have
- Experience with tokenization, payment processing, or security products.
- BA/BS degree.
- Experience with proxy architecture or tokenization technologies.
- Experience using AI developer tools in daily engineering workflows.
- Experience with performance tuning or network proxy optimization in high-concurrency production environments.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment.
