Founding Controller
The Founding Controller will own close, financial reporting, and ASC 606 revenue recognition for a usage-based software business while building scalable controls, systems, and accounting operations. The role requires 8+ years of accounting experience, including leadership or Controller experience and expertise with consumption-based revenue.

Responsibilities
- Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process and deliver accurate financial statements on tight timelines.
- Lead revenue recognition for usage-based and hybrid subscription/consumption contracts under ASC 606, including variable consideration, minimum commitments, overages, and true-ups.
- Reconcile metered usage data across Engineering, Data, billing systems, revenue schedules, and the general ledger.
- Manage Stripe Billing, Metronome, and ERP/GL integrations.
- Maintain deferred revenue, unbilled receivables, contract assets and liabilities, revenue schedules, and reconciliations.
- Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, general ledger operations, and collections.
- Design, implement, document, and improve internal controls and accounting policies.
- Manage the annual financial statement audit and serve as the primary external-auditor contact.
- Support FP&A through revenue forecasting and usage-trend analysis.
- Ensure compliance with multi-state and multi-country sales tax and VAT obligations.
- Prepare board- and investor-ready financial reporting packages.
- Manage and grow the accounting team.
- Evaluate and optimize ERP, billing/metering, expense, and payroll systems.
Requirements
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in a Controller or accounting leadership role.
- Direct experience with usage-based, consumption, or hybrid subscription/usage revenue models.
- Strong knowledge of ASC 606, variable consideration, and GAAP technical accounting.
- Hands-on experience with Stripe Billing, Metronome, and ERP systems such as NetSuite or QuickBooks Online.
- Experience owning a fast, accurate month-end close in a high-growth environment.
- Experience building and documenting internal controls, preferably with SOX or audit-readiness exposure.
- Excellent communication skills with executives, boards, and non-finance stakeholders.
- Ability to operate hands-on while designing scalable accounting processes and systems.
- Experience passing a clean Big Four audit.

- Multi-entity or international accounting and consolidation experience.
- Experience integrating product or usage telemetry pipelines with billing and revenue systems.
