Supplier Quality Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Assess the manufacturability of new product designs with Vehicle Systems Engineering.
  • Conduct supplier process assessments and audits, support supplier selection, and provide manufacturing feedback to management.
  • Review CAD models and drawings with suppliers for design for manufacturability and collaborate on new manufacturing techniques.
  • Lead the Supplier Industrialization Roadmap (SIR), including product and process development and supplier capability assessments.
  • Identify supplier capital equipment, tooling, and fixturing requirements; drive qualification and validation activities.
  • Assess supplier readiness for vehicle build events, identify production ramp risks, and coordinate mitigation plans.
  • Manage and improve APQP from design through PPAP and start of production.
  • Train suppliers on the Supplier Quality Portal and review prototype and production quality documentation.
  • Lead root-cause and corrective-action analysis, containment, and permanent corrective actions with suppliers.
  • Support analysis and disposition of suspect supplier material and participate in MRB meetings as needed.
  • Analyze incoming supplier quality metrics, including First Article Inspection reports, Cp/Cpk, Pareto analysis, SPC, and process capability studies.
  • Drive continuous improvement using quality and lean manufacturing tools.
  • Improve supplier assessment, supplier management, and part approval processes.
  • Travel domestically up to 20%, occasionally on short notice.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or an equivalent engineering field.
  • At least 6 years of experience in quality, supplier quality, or manufacturing in the automotive, aviation, or medical device industries, or a combination of supplier and internal plant quality experience.
  • Experience with Process Flow Diagrams, Process FMEAs, Process Control Plans, SPC, MSA, and process capability.
  • Experience with extrusions, castings, and general machining processes.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T, tooling and fixture verification and validation, and supplier final buy-off.
  • Knowledge of inspection and measurement techniques, CMM data interpretation, and trend analysis.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9000 and IATF 16949.
  • Experience conducting supplier assessments and managing APQP, PPAP, product launches, and vendor ramps.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with new product introduction and creating or improving quality systems.
  • Experience with Six Sigma, 8D, Pareto charts, regression analysis, ANOVA, DOE, fishbone analysis, or Red-X problem-solving techniques.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience manufacturing casting cradles or subframes, extrusions, mechanical assemblies with component stackups, and inspection processes.
  • Google Workspace experience.
  • CQE certification from ASQ, Six Sigma Green Belt, or certified Quality Systems Auditor certification.
