Senior Category Manager, Strategic Sourcing

Responsibilities

• Own the mechanical category of spend, including enclosures, structural fabrication, doors, sheet metal, and related components, at the strategic level.
• Track supply-base capabilities, pricing benchmarks, fabrication lead times, and capacity constraints.
• Own and maintain the mechanical Approved Vendor List (AVL), including shop-floor vetting of tolerances, welding, equipment, and fabrication capabilities.
• Develop category strategies and 12–24 month roadmaps using supplier segmentation frameworks such as the Kraljic Matrix.
• Structure and negotiate MSAs, SLAs, delivery commitments, liability terms, force majeure provisions, and other commercial conditions.
• Monitor supplier capacity and category risks, maintaining mitigation plans and dual-sourcing options.
• Evaluate make-or-buy opportunities involving internal fabrication capacity.
• Maintain quarterly supplier scorecards and establish standing terms for Procurement Operations handoff.

Requirements

• 4–7+ years of dedicated strategic sourcing or category management experience focused on fabricated metal, enclosures, or mechanical components.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Business, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Working knowledge of metal fabrication methods, tolerancing, and shop-floor assessment techniques.
• Experience reading, structuring, and redlining commercial contracts and legal terms.
• Proficiency with supplier qualification frameworks, RFI/RFQ processes, scorecarding, and category segmentation methodologies.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience evaluating or auditing welding, machining, or sheet metal shop floors.
• Hands-on ERP experience with Acumatica or similar enterprise platforms.
• Experience in data center infrastructure, modular enclosures, or heavy industrial equipment.
