Staff Software Engineer - Backend
Build and operate scalable backend services, distributed systems, data pipelines, and cloud-storage platforms across Databricks’ data and AI infrastructure. The role requires 12+ years of production software experience, a computer science degree, and experience with large-scale systems and SaaS or service-oriented architectures.

Responsibilities
- Build and operate backend services across product and infrastructure domains, including distributed systems, large-scale service architecture and monitoring, workflow orchestration, and developer experience.
- Deliver reliable, high-performance services and client libraries for storing and accessing large volumes of data on cloud storage backends such as AWS S3 and Azure Blob Storage.
- Build scalable services using technologies such as Scala and Kubernetes.
- Develop data pipelines using Apache Spark and Databricks to power pricing infrastructure serving millions of cluster-hours per day.
- Develop product features that help customers view and control platform usage.
- Work across distributed data systems, including Apache Spark, data plane storage, Delta Lake, Delta Pipelines, and performance engineering.
- Collaborate closely with product management to deliver strong user experiences when working on full-stack initiatives.
Requirements
- 12+ years of production-level experience with Python, Java, Scala, C++, or a similar programming language.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field.
- Experience developing large-scale distributed systems from scratch.
- Experience working on a SaaS platform or with service-oriented architectures.
