Technical Services Engineer

Provides advanced technical support to major customers running mission-critical MongoDB deployments, resolving architecture, performance, recovery, security, and storage issues. The role requires at least five years of systems or database engineering experience, strong troubleshooting skills, and coding or scripting ability.

Responsibilities

  • Advise customers and solve complex MongoDB problems across architecture, performance, recovery, security, and scalability.
  • Support mission-critical MongoDB deployments at scale, including automation, backup, performance, security, Search, Vector Search, auto-embedding, event-driven workloads, and agentic workloads.
  • Analyze issues holistically from the application tier through the database and down to storage.
  • Advocate for customer needs with product management and development teams.
  • Develop internal support tools for performance, benchmarking, diagnostics, AI-assisted diagnostics, performance analysis, and knowledge discovery.
  • Document solutions in knowledge bases and deliver training and workshops.
  • Mentor team members and share technical knowledge with peers.
  • Explore and teach new MongoDB product capabilities.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional experience.
  • Systems engineering experience with Linux performance, memory management, I/O tuning, configuration, security, networking, clusters, and troubleshooting.
  • Understanding of Kubernetes concepts, including containers, namespaces, custom resources, and multi-cluster deployments.
  • Understanding of networking concepts and protocols, including DNS, TCP/IP, and SSL/TLS.
  • Storage engineering experience with NAS, SAN, SSD, multipathing, and caching.
  • Experience building and maintaining complex, mission-critical production database systems.
  • Awareness of customer workloads and use cases involving performance, availability, and scalability.
  • Ability to read code and perform basic coding or scripting in one or more languages, such as Java, Python, Ruby, C, C++, C#, JavaScript, Node.js, or Go.
  • Strong customer service, problem-solving, collaboration, judgment, and ability to learn new technical skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience managing large-scale relational or NoSQL databases.
  • Experience with LDAP, Kerberos, or Active Directory authentication systems.
  • Experience using or managing MongoDB.
  • Experience with distributed version control systems, particularly Git.
  • Experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Kubernetes command-line and resource/container inspection experience.
