Head of Design
Leads product design vision, quality, and a lean design team for a short-term rental SaaS platform while remaining hands-on across research, interaction, visual design, and prototyping. Requires recent product-led SaaS leadership, strong product thinking, and experience influencing Product and Engineering.
About the job
Responsibilities
- Set the overall design vision and quality standard for a short-term rental software platform.
- Lead end-to-end design for the product, from discovery and research through prototyping, visual design, interaction design, and shipped features.
- Personally lead the highest-stakes design work as a hands-on player-coach.
- Own the design language, style guide, and component library.
- Reduce product complexity and prevent inconsistency as the platform and team grow.
- Build and lead a deliberately lean, AI-leveraged product design team.
- Direct work, run quality control, and raise the standard of shipped design.
- Provide direct feedback and set high expectations for designers.
- Partner with Product and Engineering leadership to decide what to build, not only how it looks.
- Use research, analytics, experimentation, and customer feedback to make design decisions and demonstrate impact.
Requirements
- Experience setting the quality bar at a product-led SaaS company within the last 5 years.
- Experience raising the standards of designers through direct feedback, hiring, and high expectations.
- Proven ownership of design direction from discovery through shipped features, with demonstrated impact.
- Hands-on design experience within the last 3 years; this is not a pure management role.
- Strong research and briefing skills, in addition to visual design expertise.
- Strong product thinking and the ability to partner as an equal with Product and Engineering leadership.
- High agency, ownership, and comfort operating in a lean, low-bureaucracy remote environment.
- Proficiency with design tools, including Figma and Whimsical.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in short-term rentals, travel, hospitality, or proptech.
- Experience using modern AI tooling in design workflows.
Compensation and Benefits
- Total cash budget of USD $171,000.00–$218,900.00, depending on seniority and location cost of living.
- International hiring may be available through contractor or employee arrangements, depending on location.
- Gross salary for US employees may range from $157,619.92–$201,771.94.
- Company equity through RSUs, with a current grant value of up to $119,400.00.
- Eligibility for up to $671,637 per year in Performance Share Units, contingent on defined business performance targets.
- US employee healthcare options, including EPO, PPO, and HSA, plus 401(k).
- 35 days off per year, including self-serve public holidays, and parental leave.
- Mental health and emotional support.
- Peer recognition rewards redeemable for gift cards, donations, or monetary rewards.
