Software Development Engineer III - Conversations
Build and scale backend services, APIs, and Vue 3 interfaces for HighLevel’s Conversations Threads and Composer experience. The role emphasizes distributed systems, high-volume messaging, observability, testing, and production ownership.

Responsibilities
- Design and maintain Node.js/NestJS services for message storage, retrieval, and state synchronization.
- Build well-typed REST contracts for Threads and Composer operations.
- Model and optimize MongoDB and Firestore schemas for high read/write volumes and atomic updates.
- Implement queues, caching, and rate limiting to handle burst traffic gracefully.
- Ship modular Vue 3 interfaces that consume APIs efficiently and handle real-time state updates.
- Instrument logs, metrics, and traces to monitor latency, error rates, and throughput.
- Maintain high coverage across unit, integration, and contract tests.
- Participate in on-call rotations, debug incidents, and drive post-mortem action items to completion.
- Collaborate with Product and Frontend leads, review code, and support junior engineers.
Requirements
- 4+ years of professional engineering experience, preferably in backend-heavy full-stack work.
- Expertise in Node.js and TypeScript; familiarity with NestJS or Express microservices.
- Proficiency in Vue 3 or similar modern frontend frameworks.
- Strong understanding of API design, data modeling, and distributed systems patterns.
- Experience with GCP or AWS, containerization, and CI/CD automation.
- Hands-on experience with observability and production monitoring.
Nice-to-haves
- Pub/Sub or message queue experience.
- Event-driven or domain-driven design experience.
