Product Engineer

Product Engineer responsible for building Bolter’s AI agent runtime, workspace, generated applications, and production reliability systems. The role requires strong full-stack TypeScript experience, product judgment, rapid prototyping ability, and depth in AI systems, real-time infrastructure, or developer tooling.

About the job

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical roadmap for the agent runtime, workspace, agent-generated applications, and production reliability.
  • Design and build pipelines that turn plain-language descriptions into reliable, context-aware agents.
  • Build the workspace where users understand, direct, and trust their agents.
  • Develop infrastructure for agents to create usable applications such as trackers, dashboards, and tools.
  • Own evaluation, error handling, and reliability systems for production agent output.
  • Make architecture decisions involving speed, reliability, cost, build versus buy, and human versus AI responsibilities.
  • Rapidly prototype features, then harden successful concepts with tests, edge-case handling, and reliability improvements.
  • Use AI tools and specialized agents to accelerate implementation.
  • Recruit and shape the early engineering team.
  • Work closely with the GM and contribute strong product and UX opinions.

Requirements

  • Track record of shipping production software, ideally with founding or early-stage startup engineering experience.
  • Strong TypeScript experience across the full stack.
  • Depth in at least one of LLM application design and production AI reliability, real-time data infrastructure, or developer-facing products and internal tooling.
  • Strong product judgment and ability to connect technical decisions to user and business outcomes.
  • Comfort working quickly in ambiguous environments and transitioning prototypes into reliable production systems.
  • Clear technical communication skills.
  • Ability to leverage AI agents as a force multiplier.
  • Interest in messaging applications, productivity tools, or AI applications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Go experience.
  • Experience building AI products, productivity tools, or chat applications.
  • Experience building consumer-facing productivity or messaging applications at scale.
  • Familiarity with AI and productivity product landscapes.
  • Experience with LLM evaluations, hallucination mitigation, or production AI reliability at scale.
  • Experience with real-time streaming architectures and event-driven systems.
  • Public portfolio including open-source projects, papers, blog posts, or side projects.
  • Full-stack experience spanning backend services and frontend UX.

Compensation

  • Compensation is not specified.
