Responsibilities
- Own 3D quality control, sorting, and final inspection systems end to end in a live 24/7 production environment.
- Improve yield, throughput, and asset utilization by analyzing production data and resolving equipment failure modes.
- Partner with machine learning and advanced manufacturing teams to improve inspection accuracy and develop next-generation measurement systems.
- Set the technical roadmap for factory automation equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical and process failures to root cause and implement permanent design fixes.
- Design and iterate on custom tooling, fixtures, and jigs for process stability and material handling.
- Lead vendors through installation and commissioning of new equipment.
- Establish preventative and predictive maintenance approaches.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience as an automation, manufacturing, or equipment engineer in development or operations.
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Experience with high-volume automated production equipment in live production environments.
- Experience maintaining and optimizing high-speed automated systems, including PLC logic, robotics, and vision systems.
- Root-cause analysis using methods such as 5 Whys, Fishbone, and 8D.
- Ability to use sensor data and statistical process control to anticipate failures.
- Comfort defining scope and building plans in an ambiguous environment.
- Based in or willing to relocate to the Provo, Utah area.
