Engineering Manager - Merchant & API
Leads and grows the Merchants & Integrations engineering team while owning merchant APIs, payment applications, and e-commerce integrations. The role requires engineering management experience, strong backend and payments depth, technical leadership, and comfort representing engineering in customer and sales conversations.

Responsibilities
- Manage, mentor, and grow the Merchants & Integrations engineering team, including hiring, career development, performance, and day-to-day direction.
- Own the reliability, quality, and roadmap of merchant-facing APIs, the payment app, and platform integrations.
- Review design and architecture decisions, maintain technical context on the data model and payment flows, and unblock complex problems.
- Join sales and integration calls, scope merchant integrations, translate business needs into technical solutions, and represent engineering to partners and prospects.
- Partner with Sales, Partnerships, Product, and Engineering to improve integration speed, compliance, and merchant experience.
- Improve team planning, delivery, and support practices.
Requirements
- Experience managing a software engineering team.
- Track record as a senior individual contributor or tech lead in payments or integrations.
- Strong technical depth in backend systems, APIs, and data modeling.
- Hands-on familiarity with payment gateways, checkout flows, and third-party e-commerce integrations.
- Ability to lead technical integration conversations with merchants and participate in sales calls.
- Sound judgment balancing speed, reliability, and compliance.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience at a payments company or comparable fintech environment.
- Familiarity with Shopify Payments, Shopify's payment gateway model, BigCommerce, and similar platforms.
- Exposure to regulated or compliance-heavy payment flows.
- Experience scaling an integrations or partner-engineering team.
- Experience with Python, Django, and Postgres.
