Responsibilities
- Lead policy- and brand-focused integrated marketing strategies that explain why OpenAI builds, demonstrate real-world technology impact, and address major policy and societal issues.
- Develop and execute national paid-media campaigns and locally tailored efforts for policymakers, civic and community leaders, influential stakeholders, and the broader public.
- Translate complex subjects—including AI infrastructure, data centers, jobs, economic opportunity, and youth safety—into clear, credible, engaging narratives.
- Own the campaign lifecycle from audience insights and briefing through creative development, media strategy, stakeholder alignment, execution, optimization, and post-campaign analysis.
- Connect policy communications with broader brand building, trust, reputation, and mission understanding.
- Partner with internal creative teams and external agencies to produce distinctive, culturally relevant work on sensitive topics.
- Coordinate with Global Affairs, Communications, Creative, Research, Product, and other cross-functional partners.
- Develop audience and market insights using research, data, and cultural context to guide messaging, channels, and messengers.
- Establish measurement plans and use campaign results and audience feedback to improve strategy and execution.
Requirements
- 12+ years of experience in integrated marketing, brand marketing, corporate reputation, public affairs, policy communications, or advertising.
- Significant experience leading complex, high-profile campaigns.
- Strong understanding of policymakers, civic leaders, advocacy organizations, community stakeholders, and public policy audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to make complex or technical subjects accessible while strengthening reputation and trust.
- Experience developing both national campaigns and locally tailored marketing or public-affairs efforts.
- Experience leading substantial paid-media campaigns across television, digital video, social, print, audio, out-of-home, and local media.
- Experience managing integrated campaigns across paid, owned, earned, experiential, and community channels.
- Strong strategic, project-management, written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Sound judgment on sensitive, fast-moving, and highly visible issues.
- Track record of cross-functional leadership and executive-level influence.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment and adapt to new developments and insights.
Nice-to-haves
- Campaign experience involving technology policy, corporate reputation, economic impact, infrastructure, workforce issues, online or youth safety, or other complex societal topics.
- Experience partnering with public policy, government affairs, corporate communications, research, and community-engagement teams.
- Experience managing creative and media agencies and substantial campaign budgets.
- Passion for storytelling and making complex ideas understandable and relevant.
- Test-and-learn mindset grounded in research, measurement, and continuous improvement.
- Familiarity with artificial intelligence, emerging technology, and public conversations about their impact.
Compensation and Benefits
- Annual salary range: $287,000–$318,000.
- Hybrid schedule with in-office work Monday through Wednesday.
