Senior Developer Experience Advocate

Responsibilities

  • Design and build prototypes, reference implementations, and example repositories demonstrating how practitioners use dbt, Fivetran connector SDK, and related tools.
  • Create prototypes that validate product direction and accelerate engineering iteration.
  • Build tooling that reduces friction in analytics engineering workflows.
  • Author technical content for developer blogs, guides, and documentation.
  • Publish data and analytics engineering knowledge and best practices.
  • Develop enablement resources for internal teams and the dbt Community, and support product launches as a subject matter expert.
  • Represent the product area across Community Slack, GitHub, conferences, and public forums.
  • Collect and synthesize community feedback for product and engineering teams.
  • Identify developer-experience sharp edges, regressions, and gaps.
  • Maintain and triage open-source repositories and community projects, including code and design reviews.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Hands-on dbt knowledge and practitioner-level fluency.
  • Strong spoken and written technical communication skills, with published data or analytics engineering content.
  • Strong data and analytics engineering fundamentals, including Python, SQL, and open-source contribution experience.
  • Familiarity with AI and enthusiasm for incorporating AI into work.
  • Ability to work autonomously, set priorities, communicate clearly, and deliver high-quality work with minimal direction.
  • Strong product sense and ability to translate user needs into concrete product feedback.
  • Interest in public-facing developer experience work.

Nice-to-haves

  • Existing dbt Community presence or prior hands-on use of dbt tools.
  • Developer relations, developer experience, or developer advocacy experience at a developer-tools company.
  • Experience building with or for AI coding agents.
  • Open-source contributions in the data ecosystem, including packages, adapters, or community tools.
  • Public speaking at data or developer conferences.
  • Experience with dbt Fusion and the dbt platform.

  • ATS-listed compensation range: $142,050–$177,562 USD annually.
