Senior Engineer, Applied AI
Senior Engineer building production-grade applied AI systems, LLM-powered tools, retrieval/memory patterns, and human-in-the-loop workflows to create organizational intelligence for home care operations. Requires Python experience, production system design skills, and cross-functional collaboration.
About the job
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and productionize foundations for applied AI systems that enable organizational intelligence, including AI-assisted sales follow-up, operational defect analysis, reusable memory and retrieval patterns, internal agentic tools, AI-powered data analysis, schedulable workflows, and closed-loop feedback systems.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, product, design, data, operations, security, and business stakeholders to turn ambiguous AI opportunities into safe, reliable, measurable product and platform capabilities.
- Work on secure model access, compliant data pathways, observability, cost controls, evaluation patterns, human-in-the-loop workflows, and reusable architecture to support AI adoption across the organization.
- Participate in an on-call rotation in collaboration with the tier 1 support team.
- Refactor legacy monolithic systems while designing new services and integration patterns.
- Explain technical tradeoffs to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Requirements
- Experience building production-grade features in Python (or transferable experience in languages like Node.js with willingness to learn Python).
- Experience designing reliable data models and using relational databases at scale.
- Proven track record as a key contributor to the design and implementation of large, complex projects.
- Comfort working in and refactoring legacy monolithic systems.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong focus on quality, observability, privacy, security, and operational risk.
- Excitement to work with AI systems in a pragmatic, measurable way grounded in real business outcomes.
- Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation.
- Thrive in a diverse, cross-functional team environment with design, product, data, operations, security, and engineering.
- Excitement for ambiguous, high-leverage problems requiring technical judgment and operational empathy.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience building LLM-powered products, AI agents, retrieval systems, memory systems, or evaluation frameworks.
- Experience with model providers or platforms such as AWS Bedrock, OpenAI, Gemini, Anthropic, or similar.
- Experience with secure data access patterns, RBAC, auditability, or compliant data workflows.
- Experience building internal tools, workflow automation, or systems supporting operations teams at scale.
- Comfort working with messy operational data and turning it into reliable product or platform capabilities.
- Experience designing systems with human-in-the-loop review, feedback loops, or measurable quality improvement.
- Knowledge of microservice architecture and best practices.
- Experience with RPC architecture.
- Comfort with frontend development using JavaScript frameworks like React.
- Experience with observability and monitoring tools like DataDog.
- Experience mentoring and spreading knowledge to other engineers.
- Passion for building foundations that help other teams move faster and more safely.
Compensation and Benefits
- Base salary range: $160,000 - $180,000 USD (national average for remote-first company; individual pay based on qualifications, skills, experience, education, and training).
- Generous equity packages that increase with position level and responsibilities.
- 401K with up to 4% employer match.
- Medical, dental, and vision coverage including zero cost plans for employees.
- Short Term Disability, Long Term Disability, and Life Insurance fully employer paid, with voluntary additional Life Insurance option.
- Generous time off program, mental health benefits, wellness program, and discount program.
